What it does
- Mineral (physical) sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as UV filters.
- Reviews describe zinc oxide as giving broad UVA and UVB coverage; both minerals rarely cause allergy, so they are often chosen for sensitive skin and children.
- Older mineral formulas left a white cast; newer micronised and tinted versions blend better, though some cast may remain on deeper skin tones.
- Like any sunscreen, protection depends on applying enough and reapplying.
How to use
Apply sunscreen as the last step of your morning routine, about 15 minutes before going out. For face and neck, use at least 1 teaspoon, roughly two finger-lengths. Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors and after sweating, swimming or wiping your face. Use it on cloudy days and near windows too. Patch-test a new sunscreen behind your ear or on your inner arm for a few days before using it on your face. Mineral sunscreens can rub off with sweat and touching, so reapplication is especially important.

Frequently asked questions
Mineral vs chemical sunscreen: which is better?
Both protect when used properly. Mineral filters are less likely to irritate sensitive skin; chemical filters are usually lighter with no white cast. Choose the one you will use every day.
Does mineral sunscreen leave a white cast on Indian skin?
Some do, especially non-tinted ones. Tinted and fluid mineral sunscreens usually blend better.
Is mineral sunscreen good for sensitive skin?
Often yes. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide rarely cause allergy. Patch-test anyway, because other ingredients can irritate.
Is mineral sunscreen safe in pregnancy?
Mineral sunscreens are a common choice in pregnancy. Ask your doctor if you have specific concerns.
Is mineral sunscreen good for acne-prone skin?
Zinc oxide is generally well tolerated, but some formulas feel heavy. Choose a light, non-comedogenic one.
Does mineral sunscreen work immediately?
Mineral filters start working once applied, but you still need an even, thick enough layer.
How to reduce white cast from mineral sunscreen?
Apply in two thin layers, let each set, or choose a tinted version. Do not use less than you need.
Is La Shield Fisico a mineral sunscreen?
Its listing describes it as a 100% mineral sunscreen with SPF 50+ and PA++++. Check the label for the filters used.
