Frequently asked questions
What is Met XL 50 used for?
Met XL 50 contains metoprolol succinate 50 mg in an extended-release form. It is used for high blood pressure, angina, heart failure, after a heart attack, and for fast or irregular heartbeats.
Met XL 50 vs Metolar 50 – are they the same?
Both contain metoprolol, but Met XL and Metocard XL are once-a-day extended-release metoprolol succinate, while plain Metolar is metoprolol tartrate that is usually taken twice a day. Do not swap between them without asking your doctor.
Should I take Met XL in the morning or at night?
Either is fine as long as it is the same time every day. Doctors often suggest bedtime for the first dose because it can cause dizziness, and morning after that.
Can I stop Met XL 50 if my BP is normal?
No. Your blood pressure is normal because of the medicine. Stopping metoprolol suddenly can cause rebound chest pain, a racing heart or even a heart attack. Only your doctor should reduce or stop it.
