Frequently asked questions
What is Lanoxin used for?
Lanoxin contains digoxin 0.25 mg. It strengthens the heartbeat in heart failure and slows the heart rate in atrial fibrillation and similar fast rhythms.
Why should I always take the same brand of digoxin?
Different brands can be absorbed slightly differently, and with digoxin even a small change in blood level can cause toxicity or loss of effect. Stick with one brand and tell your doctor if the chemist substitutes another.
What are the signs of too much digoxin?
Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, confusion, blurred or yellow-tinged vision, and a very slow or irregular pulse. Contact your doctor the same day if you notice these – a blood test can check the level.
Can I take Lanoxin with Lasix (furosemide)?
They are often prescribed together in heart failure, but furosemide lowers potassium, which makes digoxin side effects more likely. Your doctor will check potassium and may add a supplement.
