Frequently asked questions

Meftal-Spas before or after food?

Always after food. The mefenamic acid in Meftal-Spas can irritate the stomach lining, so take it with or just after a meal and with a full glass of water.

How many Meftal-Spas can I take in a day for period pain?

The usual advice is one tablet up to two or three times a day for the first days of your period, as your doctor directs. Do not keep taking it for more than a few days without seeing a doctor, and never exceed the dose on your prescription.

Can I take Meftal-Spas with alcohol?

No. Alcohol increases the risk of stomach bleeding from mefenamic acid and adds to the drowsiness and dizziness caused by dicyclomine.

Is Meftal-Spas safe in pregnancy?

It is not recommended, particularly after 20 weeks, because NSAIDs like mefenamic acid can affect the baby's heart and kidneys and delay delivery. Ask your doctor for a safer option for cramps.
