Frequently asked questions

What is Tryptomer 25 used for?

Tryptomer 25 is amitriptyline 25 mg. Doctors prescribe it for depression, for nerve pain such as diabetic neuropathy or pain after shingles, and to prevent migraine. At low doses it is also used when pain is disturbing sleep.

Tryptomer 10 vs Tryptomer 25 – which is used for what?

Both are amitriptyline. The 10 mg strength is a common starting dose for nerve pain, migraine prevention and older people; 25 mg is used as the dose is built up or for depression, where 50 mg a day is a typical adult dose.

Can I take Amitone 25 with alcohol?

No. Alcohol plus amitriptyline causes heavy drowsiness and can slow your breathing. Avoid alcohol while you are on it.

Why is amitriptyline taken at night?

It is sedating, so taking it in the evening helps you sleep and reduces daytime drowsiness. If you still feel groggy in the morning, tell your doctor – taking it a little earlier in the evening often helps.
