Uses
- Joint pain and swelling from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
- Back pain, neck pain and muscle sprains.
- Pain after injury, dental procedures or minor surgery.
- Period pain, when a doctor prescribes it.
- Short-term relief of fever with body pain, as advised by a doctor.
How to take it
Take one tablet twice a day after food with a full glass of water, or as your doctor prescribes. Never take it on an empty stomach. Use it for the shortest time possible – a few days for most pain. Do not take other paracetamol or NSAID products at the same time, and do not exceed 2 tablets a day unless told to.
Side effects
Common
- Stomach pain, indigestion, nausea.
- Diarrhoea or constipation.
- Dizziness, headache.
- Raised liver enzymes on blood tests.
Serious
Stop and get medical help urgently if you notice any of these.
- Stomach or intestinal bleeding – black tarry stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain.
- Heart attack or stroke risk with high doses or long use, especially in heart patients.
- Kidney damage – less urine, swelling of legs.
- Severe skin reactions with blistering, or allergic swelling of face and throat.
- Liver damage, particularly if paracetamol limits are exceeded or with alcohol.
Safety information
Alcohol
Avoid alcohol. It raises the risk of stomach bleeding from aceclofenac and liver damage from paracetamol.
Pregnancy
Do not take in the last 3 months of pregnancy and avoid earlier unless your doctor advises; NSAIDs can harm the baby's heart and kidneys. Not recommended while breastfeeding without medical advice.
Kidney problems
Avoid if you have kidney disease – NSAIDs can worsen kidney function. Tell your doctor.
Liver problems
Avoid in liver disease. The paracetamol component adds to liver load.
Children
Not recommended for children.
Missed dose
Take it with your next meal if needed; do not take two tablets together.
Interactions
- Other NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac) and aspirin – more stomach bleeding; avoid combining.
- Other paracetamol-containing medicines (Dolo, Crocin, cold tablets) – risk of exceeding the daily paracetamol limit.
- Blood thinners (warfarin, clopidogrel) and SSRI antidepressants – higher bleeding risk.
- BP medicines (telmisartan, ramipril), water pills – reduced effect and kidney strain.
- Methotrexate, lithium, digoxin – levels can rise.
- Steroids – greater risk of stomach ulcers.
Frequently asked questions
Zerodol P before or after food?
Always after food. Aceclofenac is an NSAID and can irritate the stomach lining; taking it with or after a meal reduces the risk of pain, ulcers and bleeding.
Can I take Zerodol P with alcohol?
No. Alcohol with aceclofenac increases the chance of stomach bleeding, and alcohol with paracetamol raises liver risk.
Can I take Zerodol P with Dolo 650?
Avoid it. Zerodol P already contains 325 mg paracetamol. Adding Dolo 650 can push you over the daily paracetamol limit. If pain is not controlled, ask your doctor.
How many Zerodol P can I take in a day?
Usually a maximum of 2 tablets a day (one every 12 hours), after food, for a few days only. Do not increase the dose on your own.
Is Zerodol P safe in pregnancy?
No, especially in the last three months, when NSAIDs can harm the baby. Use paracetamol alone for pain in pregnancy after checking with your doctor.
Zerodol P vs Zerodol SP – what is the difference?
Zerodol SP adds serratiopeptidase, an enzyme claimed to reduce swelling. Zerodol P has only aceclofenac and paracetamol. The evidence for the extra enzyme is limited; follow your doctor's prescription.
Can I take Zerodol P for toothache?
It is commonly prescribed for dental pain. Take it after food for a few days only and see a dentist for the cause.
Does Zerodol P need a prescription?
Yes. Aceclofenac is a Schedule H medicine in India and this combination should be sold only against a prescription.
Can Zerodol P damage the kidneys?
Regular or high-dose use of NSAIDs like aceclofenac can harm the kidneys, particularly in older people, diabetics, those on BP medicines, or when dehydrated. Use the smallest dose for the shortest time.
