Frequently asked questions

What is Diamicron 80 used for?

Diamicron 80 contains gliclazide 80 mg, a sulfonylurea. It lowers blood sugar in type 2 diabetes by making the pancreas release more insulin, and is usually taken with meals once or twice daily.

Diamicron 80 vs Diamicron MR 60 – what is the difference?

Both are gliclazide, but the MR (modified-release) tablet releases the medicine slowly and is taken once daily with breakfast; 60 mg MR is roughly equivalent to 80 mg of the standard tablet. Do not swap between them on your own.

Should Glizid 80 be taken before or after food?

Just before or with a meal. Never take gliclazide and then skip the meal – that is the commonest cause of a hypo.

Can I take Diamicron with alcohol?

It is best avoided. Alcohol with gliclazide raises the risk of low blood sugar and can mask its warning signs.
