What Tranexamic acid 500 mg is used for
- Heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) – reduces blood loss during periods.
- Nosebleeds that do not stop, and bleeding after dental extraction in people with bleeding disorders.
- Bleeding after surgery, delivery (postpartum haemorrhage) or injury, usually in hospital.
- Hereditary angioedema, and some doctors use it for melasma (skin pigmentation) off-label.

What is Pause 500 used for?
Pause contains tranexamic acid 500 mg, which slows the breakdown of blood clots and so reduces bleeding. It is mainly prescribed for heavy periods, and also for nosebleeds, bleeding after tooth extraction, surgery or childbirth.
How should I take Pause 500 for heavy periods?
Only on the heavy days of your period – commonly two tablets three times a day for up to 4 days, starting as soon as bleeding begins. It is not a daily medicine. Your gynaecologist may change the dose depending on how heavy the flow is.
How quickly does Trapic 500 stop bleeding?
It starts working within a few hours and most women notice a clearly lighter flow within the first day of taking it. It reduces blood loss by roughly a third to a half but does not stop the period completely.
Can I take Pause 500 with the contraceptive pill?
Only if your doctor has reviewed you. Both tranexamic acid and oestrogen-containing pills increase the risk of blood clots, so the combination needs a check of your personal risk – age, smoking, family history of clots. Many doctors prefer another approach for heavy periods in pill users.
