What Sucralfate 1 g is used for

  • Healing duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the first part of the small intestine).
  • Preventing duodenal ulcers from coming back, at a lower maintenance dose.
  • Stomach ulcers and gastritis, including those caused by painkillers, when a doctor prescribes it.
  • Protecting the stomach lining in people who cannot take acid-blocking tablets.

Frequently asked questions

Sucral tablet before or after food?

Before food, on an empty stomach – about one hour before each meal and at bedtime. It needs to coat the ulcer before food and acid arrive.

Sucral tablet vs Sucral O or Sucralfate syrup – what is the difference?

Sucral tablets contain sucralfate 1 g. Sucral-O and similar syrups combine sucralfate with oxetacaine, a local anaesthetic, for painful gastritis. Suspensions are easier to swallow and coat the food pipe; tablets suit duodenal ulcers. Your doctor picks the form.

Sucralfate vs pantoprazole – which is better for ulcers?

Pantoprazole reduces acid production and heals ulcers faster, so it is usually first choice. Sucralfate coats and protects the ulcer without changing acid, so it is useful when PPIs are unsuitable or as an add-on. Some doctors prescribe both, spaced apart.

Can I take Sucral with alcohol?

Avoid alcohol while treating an ulcer. It irritates the stomach lining and delays healing, undoing the protective effect.
