Uses

  • Fever from viral infections, flu, dengue, chikungunya or after vaccination.
  • Headache, including tension headache and mild migraine.
  • Body ache, muscle pain and joint pain.
  • Toothache and pain after dental work.
  • Period (menstrual) pain.
  • Mild to moderate pain after minor injuries or surgery.

How to take it

Swallow one 650 mg tablet with a glass of water, with or without food. Leave at least 4 to 6 hours between doses and do not take more than 4 tablets (2,600 mg) in 24 hours unless a doctor tells you to; many doctors in India advise a maximum of 3 to 4 tablets a day. If your fever or pain lasts more than 3 days, see a doctor instead of continuing on your own.

Side effects

Common

  • Side effects are rare at normal doses.
  • Mild nausea or stomach upset in some people.
  • Rarely, a skin rash or itching.

Serious

Stop and get medical help urgently if you notice any of these.

  • Liver damage if you take more than the maximum daily dose, or if you take it with heavy alcohol use – symptoms include yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, pain in the upper right belly.
  • Severe allergic reaction – swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing. Go to an emergency room.
  • Very rarely, serious skin reactions with blistering or peeling skin. Stop and see a doctor immediately.

Safety information

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol while you are taking paracetamol. Regular heavy drinking plus paracetamol raises the risk of liver damage.

Pregnancy

Paracetamol is generally considered the preferred pain and fever medicine in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, at the lowest dose for the shortest time. Still tell your doctor before using it.

Kidney problems

Usually safe at normal doses if your kidneys are weak, but tell your doctor; they may ask you to take it less often.

Liver problems

Be careful. If you have liver disease or drink heavily, ask a doctor before use – the safe daily dose may be lower for you.

Children

650 mg is an adult dose. Children need a weight-based dose of paracetamol syrup or a smaller tablet; ask a doctor or pharmacist.

Missed dose

Paracetamol is normally taken only when needed. If you are on a schedule and miss a dose, take it when you remember, but keep at least 4 hours between doses and never double up.

Interactions

  • Other medicines that also contain paracetamol (cold and flu combinations, Zerodol P, Combiflam type tablets) – you can accidentally exceed the daily limit.
  • Warfarin – regular daily paracetamol over several days can increase bleeding risk; your INR may need checking.
  • Epilepsy medicines such as carbamazepine or phenytoin – may raise the risk of liver harm with paracetamol.
  • Isoniazid (TB medicine) – may increase the risk of liver side effects.
  • Metoclopramide or domperidone – can speed up how fast paracetamol is absorbed, but this is rarely a problem.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take Dolo 650 on an empty stomach?

Yes. Paracetamol does not irritate the stomach the way painkillers like ibuprofen do, so you can take Dolo 650 with or without food. Taking it with water is enough.

Can I take Dolo 650 with alcohol?

It is best not to. Alcohol and paracetamol both put a load on the liver, and regular heavy drinking combined with paracetamol can cause serious liver damage. If you have had alcohol, wait before taking it and never exceed the daily limit.

How many Dolo 650 tablets can I take in a day?

Do not take more than 4 tablets of 650 mg in 24 hours, spaced at least 4 to 6 hours apart. Many Indian doctors recommend staying at 3 tablets a day for an average adult. More than this risks liver damage.

Is Dolo 650 safe in pregnancy?

Paracetamol is the usual first choice for fever and pain in pregnancy, taken at the lowest dose for the shortest time. Still, check with your doctor, especially if you need it for more than a day or two.

Dolo 650 or Crocin 650 – which is better?

They contain the same medicine, paracetamol 650 mg, so they work the same way. Differences are only in brand, price and tablet shape. Buy whichever is available; do not take both together.

Does Dolo 650 need a prescription in India?

Paracetamol tablets are sold over the counter at Indian chemists and are not a Schedule H drug. Even so, see a doctor if fever lasts more than 3 days, is above 103°F, or comes with rash, severe headache, breathlessness or bleeding.

Can I give Dolo 650 to my child?

No. 650 mg is an adult dose. Children need paracetamol syrup or drops dosed by body weight (roughly 10 to 15 mg per kg per dose). Ask a paediatrician or pharmacist for the right dose.

Can I take Dolo 650 for dengue fever?

Paracetamol is the only painkiller doctors recommend for dengue fever, because aspirin and ibuprofen-type medicines increase bleeding risk. Stay within the daily limit and get your platelet count checked as your doctor advises.

What is the difference between Dolo 650 and Dolo 500?

Only the strength: 650 mg versus 500 mg of paracetamol per tablet. Both are OTC. Dolo 500 is the standard dose for most adults; 650 mg is often used when the fever is high. Do not combine them.
