Uses
- Asthma attacks and COPD flare-ups.
- Severe allergic reactions, hives and drug allergies.
- Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other autoimmune diseases.
- Nephrotic syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.
- Skin conditions such as severe eczema, and some blood disorders and cancers under specialist care.
How to take it
Take the tablets once a day with breakfast, as a single dose, unless your doctor has split it. Food protects the stomach, and a morning dose causes less sleeplessness. Dispersible (DT) tablets can be swallowed or dissolved in a little water. Take exactly the number of tablets written – doses vary widely between conditions. Short courses of a few days can be stopped as directed; after more than about 3 weeks, the dose must be reduced gradually. Carry a steroid card or note if you are on long-term treatment, and tell any doctor, dentist or surgeon you take it.
Side effects
Common

- Indigestion or heartburn.

- Infections that take hold easily – fever, sore throat, mouth sores; chickenpox or measles exposure needs urgent advice.
- High blood sugar – extreme thirst, passing urine often.
- Black stools or vomiting blood (stomach ulcer).
- Eye changes – blurred vision, eye pain (cataract or glaucoma).

Safety information
Alcohol
Limit alcohol. Both irritate the stomach and the combination raises the risk of ulcers and bleeding.
Pregnancy
Used in pregnancy and breastfeeding when needed, as only a little crosses to the baby. Tell your doctor; long-term use needs specialist supervision.
Kidney problems
Can cause fluid retention and raised blood pressure; tell your doctor about kidney disease.
Liver problems
Tell your doctor about liver disease; dose may need adjusting.
Children
Widely used in children for asthma, nephrotic syndrome and allergies with weight-based doses. Long courses can slow growth, so a paediatrician monitors height.
Missed dose
Take it as soon as you remember that day. If you only remember the next day, skip the missed dose and continue. Never double the dose.
Interactions
- Painkillers like ibuprofen, diclofenac, aspirin – much higher risk of stomach bleeding; pantoprazole cover is often prescribed.
- Diabetes medicines and insulin – blood sugar rises; doses may need adjusting.
- Warfarin – bleeding risk changes; INR needs checks.
- Phenytoin, carbamazepine, rifampicin – lower prednisolone levels.
- Ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin – raise steroid levels.
- Live vaccines – avoid during high-dose treatment; ask before any vaccination.
Frequently asked questions
When should I take Wysolone 10?
In the morning with breakfast, as a single dose, unless your doctor has told you to split it. This copies the body's natural steroid rhythm and causes less insomnia.
Can I stop Wysolone 10 suddenly?
After a course of a few days, yes, as directed. After 3 weeks or more, stopping suddenly can cause severe tiredness, weakness, body aches and a flare of the illness – the dose must be tapered by your doctor.
Wysolone vs Omnacortil – what is the difference?
Both contain prednisolone and come as dispersible tablets. They work the same; the choice is usually about availability and price.
Can I take Wysolone 10 with alcohol?
Keep it minimal. Both irritate the stomach and the combination raises the risk of ulcers and bleeding.
Does Wysolone increase blood sugar?
Yes. Steroids raise blood sugar, sometimes a lot in people with diabetes. Check sugar more often and tell your doctor so diabetes medicines can be adjusted.
Is Wysolone 10 safe in pregnancy?
Prednisolone is one of the steroids preferred in pregnancy because very little reaches the baby. Use it only on your doctor's advice at the lowest dose that works.
Why was I given Wysolone with Pan 40?
Steroids can cause stomach ulcers, especially with painkillers. Pantoprazole protects the stomach lining during the course.
Can I take Wysolone 10 if I have an infection or TB history?
Steroids suppress immunity and can reactivate TB or worsen infections. Tell your doctor about any fever, cough, TB history or chickenpox exposure before starting.
Is prednisolone 10 available at Jan Aushadhi?
