Uses
- High cholesterol and triglycerides, with diet changes.

- Slowing the build-up of plaque in arteries (atherosclerosis).
- Inherited (familial) high cholesterol.
How to take it
Take one 10 mg tablet once a day at the same time each day, with or without food, swallowed with water. Keep taking it long term even when your lipid report looks good. Get the blood tests your doctor orders and report any unexplained muscle pain.
Side effects
Common
- Muscle aches.
- Headache, dizziness.
- Constipation, nausea, stomach pain.
- Weakness.
Serious
Stop and get medical help urgently if you notice any of these.
- Severe muscle pain or weakness with dark urine (rhabdomyolysis).
- Liver problems – yellow skin or eyes, dark urine.
- Protein or blood in the urine, especially at higher doses.
- Severe allergic reaction.
- A small rise in blood sugar.
Safety information
Alcohol
Keep alcohol low; heavy drinking raises the risk of liver problems with statins.
Pregnancy
Do not take in pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Stop and tell your doctor if you become pregnant.
Kidney problems
In severe kidney disease the dose is limited (usually 5 to 10 mg). Tell your doctor.
Liver problems
Avoid in active liver disease. Liver tests may be checked.
Children
Used from 8 to 10 years only for inherited high cholesterol under a specialist.
Missed dose
Take it when you remember unless the next dose is within 12 hours; then skip it. Do not double.
Interactions
- Ciclosporin – greatly raises rosuvastatin levels; avoid.
- Gemfibrozil and other fibrates – higher muscle risk; doses are limited.
- Some HIV and hepatitis C medicines (ritonavir combinations) – raise levels.
- Warfarin – INR may rise; check more often.
- Antacids with aluminium/magnesium – take at least 2 hours after rosuvastatin.
- Clopidogrel, ticagrelor – levels of rosuvastatin may rise slightly.

Any time of day works for rosuvastatin because it acts for over 24 hours. Pick one time and stick to it.
Can I take Rosuvas 10 with alcohol?
Occasional moderate drinking is usually acceptable, but heavy drinking plus a statin increases liver risk. Keep it low.
Rosuvas 10 vs Atorva 10 – which is stronger?
Rosuvastatin 10 mg lowers LDL cholesterol more than atorvastatin 10 mg; it is roughly equivalent to atorvastatin 20 mg. Your doctor chooses based on your target and other medicines.
Does Rosuvas cause muscle pain?
Mild muscle aches can occur. Severe pain, weakness or dark urine is rare but needs urgent review. Asian patients can be more sensitive to rosuvastatin, which is why 5 to 10 mg doses are common in India.
