Uses
- Vitamin B12 or folate deficiency with symptoms such as pins and needles, numbness or tiredness, as prescribed.
- Nerve-related symptoms (tingling, numbness, burning feet) when your doctor adds B-vitamin support to other treatment.
- Maintaining B12 and folate levels in people at risk, such as long-term metformin users, on a doctor's advice.
How to take it
Take one capsule a day after a meal, or as your doctor prescribes. Swallow it whole. These combinations are usually prescribed for a set period, often alongside treatment for the underlying cause (for example blood sugar control in diabetes). Folic acid above 1 mg a day can hide the signs of B12 deficiency, which is one reason to use this product under a doctor's supervision and have B12 checked. Do not combine it with other B12, folic acid or B-complex products unless your doctor approves. See your doctor if numbness, weakness or pain gets worse.
Side effects
Common
- Usually well tolerated.
- Mild nausea, diarrhoea or stomach upset.
- Headache.
Serious
Stop and get medical help urgently if you notice any of these.
- Allergic reaction – rash, itching, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing.
- Numbness or tingling that keeps getting worse – needs a doctor's review, not just more supplements.
- Severe tiredness, breathlessness or a racing heart – may mean anaemia that needs tests.
Safety information
Alcohol
Heavy drinking can itself damage nerves; cut down.
Pregnancy

Liver problems
Tell your doctor if you have liver disease.
Children
Not for children unless a doctor prescribes it.
Missed dose
Take the next dose at the usual time; do not double up.
Interactions
- Stomach acid medicines (PPIs such as pantoprazole, omeprazole) and epilepsy medicines – can lower B12 or folate over time; tell your doctor.
- Metformin – long-term use can lower vitamin B12; your doctor may check your level.
- Other B12, folic acid or B-complex products – check the total folic acid and vitamin B6.
- Epilepsy medicines (phenytoin, phenobarbital, primidone) – may not mix well with folic acid; tell your doctor.
