Uses
- Filling nutritional gaps in children or adults with poor or fussy eating.
- Recovery after illness when appetite has been low.
- A liquid option for people who cannot swallow tablets, as advised.
How to take it
Measure the dose on the label for the person's age with the cup provided, usually once a day after food. Do not give it with another multivitamin, cod liver oil or vitamin D product unless a doctor has checked the total, because too much vitamin A or D is harmful. Children are more sensitive to vitamin A, so stick to the labelled dose. A syrup does not replace a varied diet; if a child is losing weight, not growing well or always tired, see a doctor.
Side effects
Common
- Mild stomach upset or vomiting soon after a dose.
- Loose stools or constipation.
- Dark stools if the product contains iron.
Serious
Stop and get medical help urgently if you notice any of these.
- Accidental overdose – drops and syrups with iron or vitamins A and D can be dangerous for small children in large amounts; get medical help.
- Allergic reaction – rash, swelling, difficulty breathing.
- Vomiting, poor feeding or unusual drowsiness after a dose – see a doctor.
Safety information
Alcohol
Not relevant for children. Adults: alcohol does not interact directly; keep it low.
Pregnancy
Do not use an ordinary multivitamin syrup in pregnancy without checking the vitamin A content with your doctor; high-dose vitamin A can harm the baby.
Kidney problems
Tell your doctor if the child has kidney disease before giving mineral supplements.
Liver problems
Tell your doctor if the child has liver disease.
Children
Give only the dose for the child's age on the label or from your doctor, measured with the dropper or cup provided. Store out of reach.
Missed dose
Give the next dose at the usual time; never double up.
Interactions
- Other multivitamins, cod liver oil and vitamin D or A products – risk of too much vitamin A or D.
- Iron syrups – check whether the multivitamin already contains iron or zinc.
- Antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin and doxycycline – minerals reduce absorption; space doses apart.
Frequently asked questions
Zincovit syrup uses
Zincovit syrup supplies vitamins, zinc and other minerals for children and adults whose diet is lacking. It is a supplement, not a treatment for any disease.
Zincovit syrup dose for kids
Follow the dose on the label for your child's age or your doctor's advice, measured with the cup provided.
A to Z syrup vs Zincovit syrup
Both are multivitamin and mineral syrups with different ingredient amounts. Ask your doctor which suits your child.
Can multivitamin syrup increase appetite?
A multivitamin corrects low intake but is not an appetite medicine. See a doctor if your child eats very little or is not growing well.
Multivitamin syrup side effects
Mild stomach upset, loose stools or dark stools (if it contains iron) can occur. Too much vitamin A or D is harmful, so do not exceed the dose.
Can I give multivitamin syrup with vitamin D drops?
Only if your doctor has checked both products, as many syrups already contain vitamin D.
Is multivitamin syrup safe in pregnancy?
Not without checking with your doctor, because of the vitamin A content.
Best time to give multivitamin syrup
Once a day after a meal, at the same time each day.
