Uses
- Treating vitamin D deficiency confirmed by a blood test.
- Bone pain, muscle weakness and tiredness caused by low vitamin D.
- Supporting bone strength in osteoporosis, along with calcium.
- Rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults, as prescribed.
How to take it
Swallow one 60,000 IU capsule whole with water, with the main meal of the day – vitamin D is absorbed better with food. This high strength is usually taken once a week for 6 to 8 weeks to correct deficiency, after which your doctor may switch you to a once-a-month capsule or a small daily dose for maintenance. Do not take it daily unless a doctor has specifically told you to, because 60,000 IU every day leads to vitamin D overdose. Your doctor may repeat the blood test after the course. See a doctor if you develop vomiting, constipation, extreme thirst or confusion.
Side effects
Common
- Usually none at the correct dose.
- Mild stomach pain or nausea.
- Headache.
Serious
Stop and get medical help urgently if you notice any of these.
- High calcium from too much vitamin D – vomiting, constipation, excessive thirst, passing urine often, confusion, bone pain, irregular heartbeat.
- Kidney stones – sharp pain in the side or lower back with fever.
- Allergic reaction – rash, swelling, difficulty breathing.
Safety information
Alcohol
No direct interaction. Heavy drinking harms bone health, so limit it.
Pregnancy
A daily 400 IU supplement is recommended through pregnancy; high-dose capsules are given in pregnancy only for confirmed deficiency under a doctor's care. Safe while breastfeeding at prescribed doses.
Kidney problems
Not suitable if you have kidney failure, kidney stones or high calcium levels without specialist advice.
Liver problems
Tell your doctor about liver disease; vitamin D activation can be affected.
Children
Children use lower daily doses; 60,000 IU capsules are given to children only on a paediatrician's prescription.
Missed dose
Take the weekly dose as soon as you remember unless the next one is nearly due – then skip it. Never take two capsules together.
Interactions
- Other vitamin D or calcium supplements and multivitamins – do not combine without asking your doctor, to avoid high calcium.
- Thiazide water pills (hydrochlorothiazide, indapamide) – can raise blood calcium.
- Digoxin – high calcium can cause abnormal heart rhythm.
- Epilepsy medicines (phenytoin, carbamazepine, phenobarbital) – may need a higher vitamin D dose.
- Steroids (prednisolone), orlistat, cholestyramine and liquid paraffin – reduce vitamin D's effect or absorption.
- Ketoconazole and other antifungals – affect how vitamin D is broken down.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I take Uprise-D3 60K?
Usually once a week for 6 to 8 weeks to correct a deficiency, then as your doctor advises – often once a month for maintenance. Never take it daily unless specifically told to.
Uprise-D3 60K before or after food?
Take it with a meal, ideally the biggest meal of the day. Vitamin D is fat-soluble and is absorbed much better with food.
Can I take Uprise-D3 60K every day?
No. 60,000 IU daily quickly leads to vitamin D toxicity with high calcium, kidney stones and heart rhythm problems. The capsule is designed for weekly or monthly use.
D-Rise 60K vs Uprise-D3 60K – what is the difference?
Both contain cholecalciferol 60,000 IU and work identically. Choose by availability and price; the dosing schedule is what matters.
Is Uprise-D3 60K safe in pregnancy?
Pregnant women are advised a daily 400 IU vitamin D supplement. High-dose weekly capsules are used in pregnancy only for confirmed deficiency under a doctor's care.
What are the signs of too much vitamin D?
Nausea, vomiting, constipation, excessive thirst, frequent urination, weakness, confusion and bone pain. These come from high calcium – stop the supplement and see a doctor.
Can I take Uprise-D3 with calcium tablets?
Often yes, as doctors prescribe both for bone health, but do not add extra calcium or vitamin D products on your own, because together they can push calcium too high.
Do I need a blood test before taking vitamin D 60K?
Ideally yes. A 25-hydroxy vitamin D test confirms deficiency and guides how long to take the weekly dose. Your doctor may repeat it after the course.
Is vitamin D3 60K available without prescription?
Vitamin D3 capsules are sold over the counter in India. Because the 60,000 IU strength can cause toxicity if misused, follow a doctor's or pharmacist's schedule.
