Uses
- Daily vitamin D supplement for adults who get little sunlight or have dark skin.
- Maintaining vitamin D levels after a deficiency has been corrected, as your doctor advises.
- Supporting bone health with calcium in people at risk of osteoporosis, rickets or osteomalacia.
How to take it
Take one capsule a day with a meal, or as your doctor advises. Vitamin D is fat-soluble and is absorbed better with food. 1,000 IU a day is a maintenance dose; the NHS says most people need 400 IU a day and adults should not take more than 4,000 IU a day unless a doctor advises it. Count vitamin D from any calcium-D3 tablet or multivitamin you also take. If you have kidney disease, kidney stones, high calcium or hyperparathyroidism, ask your doctor before starting. See a doctor if you develop vomiting, constipation, extreme thirst or confusion.
